The provisional figures of Exports, Imports and Balance of Trade during and up to December, 2006 with comparative figures for the previous and corresponding month are given below:-

According to the provisional figures compiled by the Federal Bureau of Statistics, exports from Pakistan during November, 2006 amounted to Rs.83,805 million (provisional) as against Rs.77,688 million (provisional) in October, 2006 and Rs.66,546 million during November, 2005 showing an increase of 7.87% over October,2006 and of 25.94% over November, 2005.

In terms of US dollars the exports increased by 7.64% in November, 2006 $ 1,380,001 thousands (provisional) when compared with October, 2006 $ 1,282,058 thousands (provisional) and by 23.94% as compared to November, 2005 $ 1,113,472 thousands.

Exports during July-November, 2006 totalled Rs.418,937 million (provisional) as against Rs.393,548 million during the corresponding period of last year showing an increase of 6.45%.

In terms of US dollars the exports during July-November, 2006 totalled $ 6,927,683 thousands (provisional) as against $ 6,591,866 thousands during the corresponding period of last year showing an increase of 5.09%.

Main commodities of exports during November, 2006 were Bedwear (Rs.9,413 million), Knitwear (Rs.9,303 million), Cotton cloth (Rs.8,731 million), Cotton yarn (Rs.6,910 million), Readymade garments (Rs.6,089 million), Art, silk & Synthetic textile (Rs.4,017 million), Rice basmati (Rs.2,932 million), Rice others (Rs.2,795 million), Towels (Rs.2,618 million) and Petroleum products (excl. Top Naptha) (Rs.2,122 million).

The increase(+) / decrease(-) recorded in main commodities exported during November, 2006 over October, 2006 and November, 2005 is given below:-

Imports into Pakistan during November, 2006 amounted to Rs.168,433 million (provisional) as against Rs.129,170 million (provisional) in October, 2006 and Rs.137,400 million during November, 2005 showing an increase of 30.40% over October, 2006 and of 22.59% over November, 2005.

In terms of US dollars the imports increased by 30.11% in November, 2006 $ 2,773,554 thousands (provisional) as compared to October, 2006 $ 2,131,662 thousands (provisional) and by 20.64% as compared to November, 2005 $ 2,299,021 thousands

Imports during July-November, 2006 totalled Rs.745,989 million (provisional) as against Rs.667,277 million during the corresponding period of last year showing an increase of 11.80%.

In terms of US dollars the imports during July-November, 2006 totalled $ 12,333,301 thousands (provisional) as against $ 11,176,213 thousands during the corresponding period of last year showing an increase of 10.35%.

Main commodities of imports during November, 2006 were Petroleum crude (Rs.21,552 million), Petroleum products (Rs.18,195 million), Other Apparatus (Telecom) ( Rs.8,310 million), Iron & steel (Rs.6,901 million), Palm oil (Rs.5,064 million), Plastic materials (Rs.4,978 million), Mobile phone (Rs.4,718 million), Electrical machinery & apparatus (Rs.4,073 million), Raw Cotton (Rs.3,022 million) and Textile machinery (Rs.2,856 million).

Based on the provisional figures of imports and exports the balance of trade in November, 2006 was (-)84,628 million in terms of Rupees and (-)1,393,553 thousands in US dollars. The balance of trade figures cumulative from July-November, 2006 were (-)327,052 million in terms of Rupees and (-)5,405,618 thousand in US dollars.
